Fibroblasts are cells that secrete structural materials like collagen into the cellular environment. Fibroblasts can become incorrectly “activated,” leading to dangerous effects like supporting the growth of a tumor. It is critical to understand how fibroblasts uptake drugs and particles in hopes of delivering targeted, effective treatments against activated fibroblasts. Seen here are human fibroblasts internalizing silica beads (yellow). This image was taken to understand how fibroblasts detect and intake different substances.
